ABBYY hosts Safer Internet Day sessions with Arsenal in the Community at Emirates Stadium

120 primary and secondary schoolchildren attended sessions designed to enhance online safety.

ABBYY collaborated with Arsenal in the Community to run sessions for 120 children at Emirates Stadium to promote safety online on Safer Internet Day on 11 February.

With a focus on online safety and wellbeing, the event featured engaging, interactive sessions for primary and secondary school students aged 10–13. The goal was to engage students in AI by providing an interactive experience, whilst highlighting the diverse career opportunities within the technology sector.

There were three rotating workshops, led by Arsenal and intelligent automation partner of Arsenal Women’s Football Club, ABBYY. The workshops included:

  • Stadium Tour led by Arsenal IT Team: Visiting areas behind the scenes and exploring the different uses of technology at key points on the tour, including dressing room screens and advertising boards.
  • AITC Scamming Awareness: A session on identifying scams and phishing, featuring an interactive ‘Scam or Safe’ activity where participants analyse and sort real-world email examples.
  • AI Training – How to Train an AI Model: An immersive, hands-on experience training a model using Vantage, ABBYY’s Intelligent document processing platform.

Generative AI technologies will change how we operate and live. Therefore, it is paramount to understand the risks associated with it, like deepfakes and sophisticated scams. It rests on all of us in the AI industry to help giving users – not least younger ones for whom this is what they are growing up with – the tools to use AI and navigate the internet safely. We’re delighted to have had the opportunity to make a real difference to the children who attended our sessions. It’s been a privilege to work with Arsenal in the Community to create a more responsible digital future for the next generation.

Online safety is one of many challenges young people currently face as they navigate their way through their young lives. Together with ABBYY, we’re able to raise awareness and get children talking and learning about the issue. Pupils engaged incredibly well, speaking about their own experiences and the schools valued the unique approach we developed to address such an important topic. The AI session was equally impressive, ABBYY’s expertise and insight coupled with our reach and ability to engage with the community was a great example of a shared commitment, and a continuation on the strong community work we’ve delivered for 40 years.
